Promoting Conservation And Education Through Birding
About Jackson Audubon Society
Jackson Audubon is an all-volunteer chapter of National Audubon chartered in 1971. Our chapter membership area includes five counties in central Mississippi: Hinds, Rankin, Madison, Warren, and Yazoo Counties. JAS strives to further awareness and enjoyment of all aspects of birding through educational and conservation activities. By engaging in these activities, we gain a better understanding of how to protect birds and the habitats they need. All activities are free and fun, and we welcome all who are interested in birding, wildlife-watching and natural history. You do not need to be a member to attend our bird outings or chapter meetings.
Our chapter holds four-chapter meetings a year at the Clinton Community Nature Center, monthly family bird walks at the LeFleur’s Bluff State Park, as well as birding field trips to other areas in central Mississippi. Our expert trip leaders are always willing to share their expertise about birds, plants, and other wildlife. Each year, JAS organizes two Christmas Bird Counts and conducts a children’s bird camp in spring or summer. All upcoming activities are listed in our online newsletter and calendar. Donations are used to support our children’s bird camp, educational programs, research, and conservation efforts.
JAS is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit, tax-exempt organization registered with the IRS and the Mississippi Secretary of State.
